And it came to pass, when all the kingsH4428 which were on this sideH5676 JordanH3383, in the hillsH2022, and in the valleysH8219, and in all the coastsH2348 of the greatH1419 seaH3220 over againstH4136 LebanonH3844, the HittiteH2850, and the AmoriteH567, the CanaaniteH3669, the PerizziteH6522, the HiviteH2340, and the JebusiteH2983, heardH8085 thereof;2That they gatheredH6908 themselves togetherH3162, to fightH3898 with JoshuaH3091 and with IsraelH3478, with oneH259 accordH6310.

3And when the inhabitantsH3427 of GibeonH1391 heardH8085 what JoshuaH3091 had doneH6213 unto JerichoH3405 and to AiH5857,4They did workH6213 wililyH6195, and wentH3212 and made as if they had been ambassadorsH6737, and tookH3947 oldH1087 sacksH8242 upon their assesH2543, and wineH3196 bottlesH4997, oldH1087, and rentH1234, and bound upH6887;5And oldH1087 shoesH5275 and cloutedH2921 upon their feetH7272, and oldH1087 garmentsH8008 upon them; and all the breadH3899 of their provisionH6718 was dryH3001 and mouldyH5350.6And they wentH3212 to JoshuaH3091 unto the campH4264 at GilgalH1537, and saidH559 unto him, and to the menH376 of IsraelH3478, We be comeH935 from a farH7350 countryH776: now therefore makeH3772 ye a leagueH1285 with us.7And the menH376 of IsraelH3478 saidH559 unto the HivitesH2340, PeradventureH194 ye dwellH3427 amongH7130 us; and how shall we makeH3772 a leagueH1285 with you?8And they saidH559 unto JoshuaH3091, We are thy servantsH5650. Now their citiesH5892 were GibeonH1391, and ChephirahH3716, and BeerothH881, and KirjathjearimH7157.18And the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 smoteH5221 them not, because the princesH5387 of the congregationH5712 had swornH7650 unto them by the LORDH3068 GodH430 of IsraelH3478. And all the congregationH5712 murmuredH3885 against the princesH5387.19But all the princesH5387 saidH559 unto all the congregationH5712, We have swornH7650 unto them by the LORDH3068 GodH430 of IsraelH3478: now therefore we mayH3201 not touchH5060 them.20This we will doH6213 to them; we will even let them liveH2421, lest wrathH7110 be upon us, because of the oathH7621 which we swareH7650 unto them.21And the princesH5387 saidH559 unto them, Let them liveH2421; but let them be hewersH2404 of woodH6086 and drawersH7579 of waterH4325 unto all the congregationH5712; as the princesH5387 had promisedH1696 them.

22And JoshuaH3091 calledH7121 for them, and he spakeH1696 unto them, sayingH559, Wherefore have ye beguiledH7411 us, sayingH559, We are veryH3966 farH7350 from you; when ye dwellH3427 amongH7130 us?23Now therefore ye are cursedH779, and there shall none of you be freedH3772 from being bondmenH5650, and hewersH2404 of woodH6086 and drawersH7579 of waterH4325 for the houseH1004 of my GodH430.24And they answeredH6030 JoshuaH3091, and saidH559, Because it was certainlyH5046 toldH5046 thy servantsH5650, how that the LORDH3068 thy GodH430 commandedH6680 his servantH5650 MosesH4872 to giveH5414 you all the landH776, and to destroyH8045 all the inhabitantsH3427 of the landH776 from beforeH6440 you, therefore we were soreH3966 afraidH3372 of our livesH5315 becauseH6440 of you, and have doneH6213 this thingH1697.25And now, behold, weH2009 are in thine handH3027: as it seemethH5869 goodH2896 and rightH3477 unto thee to doH6213 unto us, doH6213.26And so didH6213 he unto them, and deliveredH5337 them out of the handH3027 of the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478, that they slewH2026 them not.27And JoshuaH3091 madeH5414 them that dayH3117 hewersH2404 of woodH6086 and drawersH7579 of waterH4325 for the congregationH5712, and for the altarH4196 of the LORDH3068, even unto this dayH3117, in the placeH4725 which he should chooseH977.
