Then ShephatiahH8203 the sonH1121 of MattanH4977, and GedaliahH1436 the sonH1121 of PashurH6583, and JucalH3116 the sonH1121 of ShelemiahH8018, and PashurH6583 the sonH1121 of MalchiahH4441, heardH8085 the wordsH1697 that JeremiahH3414 had spokenH1696 unto all the peopleH5971, sayingH559,2Thus saithH559 the LORDH3068, He that remainethH3427 in this cityH5892 shall dieH4191 by the swordH2719, by the famineH7458, and by the pestilenceH1698: but he that goeth forthH3318 to the ChaldeansH3778 shall liveH2421; for he shall have his lifeH5315 for a preyH7998, and shall liveH2421 H2425.3Thus saithH559 the LORDH3068, This cityH5892 shall surelyH5414 be givenH5414 into the handH3027 of the kingH4428 of Babylon'sH894 armyH2428, which shall takeH3920 it.4Therefore the princesH8269 saidH559 unto the kingH4428, We beseech thee, let this manH376 be put to deathH4191: for thusH3651 he weakenethH7503 the handsH3027 of the menH582 of warH4421 that remainH7604 in this cityH5892, and the handsH3027 of all the peopleH5971, in speakingH1696 such wordsH1697 unto them: for this manH376 seekethH1875 not the welfareH7965 of this peopleH5971, but the hurtH7451.5Then ZedekiahH6667 the kingH4428 saidH559, Behold, he is in your handH3027: for the kingH4428 is not he that canH3201 do any thingH1697 against you.6Then tookH3947 they JeremiahH3414, and castH7993 him into the dungeonH953 of MalchiahH4441 the sonH1121 of HammelechH4428, that was in the courtH2691 of the prisonH4307: and they let downH7971 JeremiahH3414 with cordsH2256. And in the dungeonH953 there was no waterH4325, but mireH2916: so JeremiahH3414 sunkH2883 in the mireH2916.

7Now when EbedmelechH5663 the EthiopianH3569, oneH376 of the eunuchsH5631 which was in the king'sH4428 houseH1004, heardH8085 that they had putH5414 JeremiahH3414 in the dungeonH953; the kingH4428 then sittingH3427 in the gateH8179 of BenjaminH1144;8EbedmelechH5663 went forthH3318 out of the king'sH4428 houseH1004, and spakeH1696 to the kingH4428, sayingH559,9My lordH113 the kingH4428, these menH582 have done evilH7489 in all that they have doneH6213 to JeremiahH3414 the prophetH5030, whom they have castH7993 into the dungeonH953; and he is like to dieH4191 forH6440 hungerH7458 in the placeH8478 where he is: for there is no more breadH3899 in the cityH5892.10Then the kingH4428 commandedH6680 EbedmelechH5663 the EthiopianH3569, sayingH559, TakeH3947 from hence thirtyH7970 menH582 with theeH3027, and take upH5927 JeremiahH3414 the prophetH5030 out of the dungeonH953, before he dieH4191.11So EbedmelechH5663 tookH3947 the menH582 with himH3027, and wentH935 into the houseH1004 of the kingH4428 under the treasuryH214, and tookH3947 thence oldH1094 cast cloutsH5499 and oldH1094 rotten ragsH4418, and let them downH7971 by cordsH2256 into the dungeonH953 to JeremiahH3414.12And EbedmelechH5663 the EthiopianH3569 saidH559 unto JeremiahH3414, PutH7760 now these oldH1094 cast cloutsH5499 and rotten ragsH4418 under thine armholesH679 H3027 under the cordsH2256. And JeremiahH3414 didH6213 so.13So they drew upH4900 JeremiahH3414 with cordsH2256, and took him upH5927 out of the dungeonH953: and JeremiahH3414 remainedH3427 in the courtH2691 of the prisonH4307.

14Then ZedekiahH6667 the kingH4428 sentH7971, and tookH3947 JeremiahH3414 the prophetH5030 unto him into the thirdH7992 entryH3996 that is in the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068: and the kingH4428 saidH559 unto JeremiahH3414, I will askH7592 thee a thingH1697; hideH3582 nothing from me.15Then JeremiahH3414 saidH559 unto ZedekiahH6667, If I declareH5046 it unto thee, wilt thou not surelyH4191 put me to deathH4191? and if I give thee counselH3289, wilt thou not hearkenH8085 unto me?16So ZedekiahH6667 the kingH4428 swareH7650 secretlyH5643 unto JeremiahH3414, sayingH559, As the LORDH3068 livethH2416, that madeH6213 us this soulH5315, I will not put thee to deathH4191, neither will I giveH5414 thee into the handH3027 of these menH582 that seekH1245 thy lifeH5315.17Then saidH559 JeremiahH3414 unto ZedekiahH6667, Thus saithH559 the LORDH3068, the GodH430 of hostsH6635, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478; If thou wilt assuredlyH3318 go forthH3318 unto the kingH4428 of Babylon'sH894 princesH8269, then thy soulH5315 shall liveH2421, and this cityH5892 shall not be burnedH8313 with fireH784; and thou shalt liveH2421, and thine houseH1004:18But if thou wilt not go forthH3318 to the kingH4428 of Babylon'sH894 princesH8269, then shall this cityH5892 be givenH5414 into the handH3027 of the ChaldeansH3778, and they shall burnH8313 it with fireH784, and thou shalt not escape outH4422 of their handH3027.19And ZedekiahH6667 the kingH4428 saidH559 unto JeremiahH3414, I am afraidH1672 of the JewsH3064 that are fallenH5307 to the ChaldeansH3778, lest they deliverH5414 me into their handH3027, and they mockH5953 me.20But JeremiahH3414 saidH559, They shall not deliverH5414 thee. ObeyH8085, I beseech thee, the voiceH6963 of the LORDH3068, which I speakH1696 unto thee: so it shall be wellH3190 unto thee, and thy soulH5315 shall liveH2421.21But if thou refuseH3986 to go forthH3318, this is the wordH1697 that the LORDH3068 hath shewedH7200 me:22And, behold, all the womenH802 that are leftH7604 in the kingH4428 of Judah'sH3063 houseH1004 shall be brought forthH3318 to the kingH4428 of Babylon'sH894 princesH8269, and those women shall sayH559, Thy friendsH582 H7965 have set thee onH5496, and have prevailedH3201 against thee: thy feetH7272 are sunkH2883 in the mireH1206, and they are turned awayH5472 backH268.23So they shall bring outH3318 all thy wivesH802 and thy childrenH1121 to the ChaldeansH3778: and thou shalt not escape outH4422 of their handH3027, but shalt be takenH8610 by the handH3027 of the kingH4428 of BabylonH894: and thou shalt cause this cityH5892 to be burnedH8313 with fireH784.

24Then saidH559 ZedekiahH6667 unto JeremiahH3414, Let no manH376 knowH3045 of these wordsH1697, and thou shalt not dieH4191.25But if the princesH8269 hearH8085 that I have talkedH1696 with thee, and they comeH935 unto thee, and sayH559 unto thee, DeclareH5046 unto us now what thou hast saidH1696 unto the kingH4428, hideH3582 it not from us, and we will not put thee to deathH4191; also what the kingH4428 saidH1696 unto thee:26Then thou shalt sayH559 unto them, I presentedH5307 my supplicationH8467 beforeH6440 the kingH4428, that he would not cause me to returnH7725 to Jonathan'sH3083 houseH1004, to dieH4191 there.27Then cameH935 all the princesH8269 unto JeremiahH3414, and askedH7592 him: and he toldH5046 them according to all these wordsH1697 that the kingH4428 had commandedH6680. So they left off speakingH2790 with him; for the matterH1697 was not perceivedH8085.28So JeremiahH3414 abodeH3427 in the courtH2691 of the prisonH4307 until the dayH3117 that JerusalemH3389 was takenH3920: and he was there when JerusalemH3389 was takenH3920.
